Altomed is the UK’s largest independent supplier to the surgical ophthalmology sector, providing high-quality instruments and medical devices to eye care professionals nationwide. Established in 1976 and based in Tyne and Wear, we bring almost 50 years of experience to the ophthalmic market and will proudly celebrate our golden anniversary in 2026.
Our success is built on a deep understanding of our customers’ needs, combined with extensive manufacturing and sourcing expertise. Alongside our own range of products we work with a carefully selected network of trusted branded partners, allowing us to offer clinically proven products that meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and reliability.
Altomed supports all ophthalmic sub-specialties, including cataract, retina, cornea, glaucoma, oculoplastic, paediatrics, accident & emergency, and oncology. This breadth of coverage enables us to serve clinicians, educators, and healthcare providers across the full spectrum of ophthalmic care.

We manufacture and exclusively distribute over 3,000 ophthalmic products, including reusable instruments, single-use devices, sterilisation trays, implants, liquids, gases, stains and dyes, lenses, consumables, and training simulators. Every product we supply is selected, developed, and delivered with quality, safety, and performance at its core.
